Our place is located just east of Brewton, Al. in the southwestern part of Alabama about 10 miles from the Florida line, 60 miles north of Pensacola, Fl.

We started raising goats in the fall of 1995 to clear brush on our 60-acre tree and brush farm. We started with 2 goats given to us by friends, Debbie & Gregg Brown. As anyone knows 2 goats just is never enough, so before the end of the year we had 20 or 30 goats adding a few here an there. Things were going real smooth until May of 1997 when I attended an auction in Brundidge, Alabama, saw my first 3/4 Boer doe kid, and nothing has been the same since. She was the prettiest animal I had ever seen, needless to say I paid too much for her, but that's what happens when there's at lest 2 people at an auction that thinks that they just have to have that cute little doe kid. Wasn't registered either!

Not much time passed before I was really looking to find more of these goats. Made lots of phone calls. Found some goats! Allen Oglesby of Robertsdale, Al. had a nice little herd and said he had a couple little darlings he might part with. So, here it's June 1997and now I have (2) - 3/4 boer doe kids and (1) - 1/2 boer doe kid and they really are nice goats (correct color and application papers too)! What! I've got to send off papers and MONEY????
Now I own Registered Goats.

Registered Goats! I want FULLBLOOD BOER GOATS!!
So here it is July 1997, more phone calls. Wow!!!!
Need more MONEY!!!!!!

Late July 1997, after many calls and talking with many different breeders, mostly in Texas, I made arrangements with Carol Rochester of Springtown, TX to acquire two Full blood Bucks and one Full blood Doe. Made trip to Springtown, which is just west of Fort Worth, TX Carol doesn't really sound like a Texan on the phone. She speaks the Queen's English with a British accent. Carol called after we got home and said I had miscounted the money I paid her for the goats, she in turn mailed me a check for the $100.00 mistake I had made.

So here it is fall of 1997 and I figure I got it made. Got me two full blood bucks one full blood doe and twenty to thirty Spanish does and in three to five years I'll have a good size herd and will have plenty of goats for sale. Well things can change in a hurry. When I registered my first goats they sent me some information on Boer Goats and the association, they also had a list of members of which my name was on. I have heard some refer to this as a breeders list. In less than two months after joining I receive three phone calls from out of state wanting to know if I have any percentage does for sale. Well here I'm thinking I got people wanting to buy something that I have not advertised, that I don't have, don't plan on having for three to five years and that I haven't told anyone that I would even have then.
Need More Goats!!!!!!!

January 1998 I'm looking back at the other goats we've acquired at local sales and other farms, herd now is 60 or so Does consisting of mostly percentage Boers and Spanish, and decide we need more full blood does. So back on the phone again and again I end up talking with Carol Rochester who finds a rancher close to her that has a small herd that he wants to sell as a package. He has 12 full blood and 15 - 75% mature Does and 12 kids. So here we go back to Texas and bring home more goats.

In November 1998 we bought 18 1/2 blood Does from Dennis Landon of
LL Farms in Lucedale Ms. All were mature, bred Does that had some real nice kids this year. Dennis was cutting back and upgrading his herd. He said that he thought he might try showing goats. I wish him luck; he has some real nice goats.

Now here it is 1999 and Goat Keeping has turned into a real job. The herd at one time had grown to better than 160 but after getting rid of the Spanish Does and the percentage bucks we now have about 100 Does.

I have two Herd Sires; a five year old, ABC Hollywood of ABC Farms in Florida owned by Mary Powis and Star a two-year-old grandson of Doemaker. Star is from Circle R Boers owned by Carol Rochester. Carol has been showing goats for some time now and has done well with both percentages and full bloods. She has Codi/PCI bucks and Bulldog, ABGA Reserve Grand Champion Buck. She really does have some very nice animals.

Thanks for visiting.
